Dear Parents,
Since I have been out ill and no graded papers are being sent home, I thought I'd post on the blog what would normally gone out in the Tuesday folders. Thanks for your understanding.
Here is what we will be doing this week:
1. Reading—we will be reading many books and magazine articles about India. It will be a busy week with all of the festival happenings.
2. Language Arts—we are working on the rough draft of our immigration paper. We will also be editing and revising our paper this week.
3. Social Studies—we will be reading information about India. We will also be doing a map of India for a grade. The students have a quilt square that is due tomorrow, Wednesday, April 30th. This is to be a representation of their heritage and culture. They will be on display in the hallway for festival week. The next current event will be due Friday, May 2.
Things to remember
**A.M. Class—Thank you to all of those that have donated money and items for our class basket. It is going to be great thanks to all of you. I appreciate your help.
**A.M. Please bring a 12-pack of Desani water for the multicultural festival.
**Multicultural Festival—May 3rd
**If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to e-mail me.
P.S. The class Patriotic Basket is adorable! Thank you for all your contributions! And thanks to the PTO for putting it together for us!

Read Aloud
As you have noticed, I have been having your child read aloud for 15 minutes each night for homework since September. This is because I have noticed some students are not as fluent as we would like them to be by fifth grade. I would also like to note that we are reading aloud in class more often now as well. While many students like to "help" their friends pronounce words, I would appreciate if they would let their friends try to attempt the words on their own. Please remind your student not to "help" their friends with pronunciation in class. Also, please encourage your child to truly read aloud. Not only does it help with fluency but it also helps with comprehension. If they are miscuing while reading aloud they are probably miscuing when they read to themselves and we need to know this information.
Thank you!

School Already???
Yes, indeed! School begins Monday, August 26th! I can't wait to meet my fifth graders!
Leaving Early?
If you know your child will be leaving school early, please let me know via email in advance so I can have your student ready to go when you get here. Otherwise I am having to stop instruction, get your child organized, and give them their homework while you (and the rest of the class) waits. Thanks for your help!
